How would you explain “Personal Learning Network” to your mother?

In the Introduction to PLNs Week 2 virtual session of Exploring Personal Learning Networks: Practical Issues for Organizations (#xplrpln), Kimberly Scott and Jeff Merrell (seminar facilitators) challenged the participants to come up with a way to explain the concept of a Personal Learning Network to our mothers.

Here’s my definition. I’ll test it out on my mother later this week.

Keeley PLN DefinitionHere are some responses I’ve received from my own (and expanding rapidly) personal learning network. I asked on Twitter because it forces short answers!

Tweet me (@sorokti) your simple definition of your Personal Learning Network and I’ll add it to the Storify I created. Or just make a comment on this post with your definition.

P.S. If anyone knows an elegant way to embed a Storify within a wordpress.com blog let me know in the comments!

I saw your Storify and wanted to tell you how much I liked the idea and things got out of hand last week, so I am glad you posted this in your blog.

Found the following info to help with your embedding issue…,.
For security reasons, WordPress will no longer display content embedded in WordPress posts unless it comes from “whitelisted” sources. If you’re simply trying to copy/paste a Storify embed code or HTML into WordPress posts, you most likely won’t see this work.

You will not be able to use Storify embed codes or HTML by default in posts. At the moment, your best options are to link to Storify stories from your posts or update to a self-hosted (wordpress.org) blog.

You may try the wordpress.com option from the “Export” button above your story on Storify. This option will attempt to create a new post on your blog and embed your story there, so it’s possible many wordpress.com setups (particularly newer ones) will encounter an error or not see their story’s content embedded in the post if trying this option.

How would I explain my PLN to my mother?
Like minded educators with whom I have developed a relationship, even though I have never met them. They encourage me to learn something new every day, they make me laugh, and we support each other in our work.

So glad you are in my PLN
